HEIDELBERG, Germany -- Three U.S. Army Europe Soldiers died Feb. 3 when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Mannheim, Germany. The crash occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. Central European Time.
The helicopter, on a training flight, was approaching Coleman Army Airfield; all the crewmembers aboard were killed in the crash.
"Our condolences and prayers go out to the families and loved ones," said Brig. Gen. Michael A. Ryan, deputy commanding general, V Corps. "The loss of these brave and dedicated Soldiers is devastating for all of us. I also want to recognize the prompt and professional response by the German police and firefighters" said Ryan. "They arrived at the scene as quickly as possible."
The accident is under investigation, and a team from the Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center at Fort Rucker, Ala., is en route to assist.
The Soldiers' names will be withheld until after notification of their next-of-kin.
