FORT BELVOIR, Va. - The 2009 Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration found that the Battle Command Sustainment Support System enhances coalition logistics planning and execution, according to a report released in December.
The 2009 Final Report, published by the CWID Joint Management Office, is the result of a month-long exercise in June 2009. Participants included more than 1,500 representatives from the U.S. military services, coalition partners, local and federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations. The exercise tested 43 technologies designed to enhance military, homeland security and homeland defense operations, including BCS3.
The report's assessment of BCS3 found that the system facilitates information exchange, provides for easy importing and exporting of data, and allows easy access to manpower and equipment information needed for mission planning.
"Our long-standing goal has been to facilitate commanders' decision making process by providing near real-time access to critical logistics information," said Calvin Pilgrim, the product director for the BCS3 Product Management Office. "The report's assessment and the successful fielding of more than 5,500 BCS3s worldwide demonstrate that we're achieving this goal."
One of the products of Program Manager Battle Command, BCS3 is the logistics command and control, or C2, system used by joint land-component forces. It fuses sustainment, in-transit and force data in near real-time to assist commanders in making critical decisions. BCS3 supports mission planning and execution in both classified and unclassified environments, and is the sole provider of logistics information to the Army Battle Command System, a suite of software products sharing a common architecture to support maneuver, fire support, logistics, airspace and strategic C2.
