FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. (Jan. 26, 2009) - Fort Huachuca is supporting the Department of Defense in evaluating advanced capabilities to increase intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and force protection capabilities in the contemporary operating environment.

A test of a helium-filled aerostat is currently being conducted here on Range 13 in Garden Canyon through the end of January.

Fort Huachuca was selected as a test site because of its similarity to the terrain in the contemporary operating environment. It is possible that the DoD may come back to Fort Huachuca for additional tests.

Fort Huachuca hosts numerous tests that support the joint military community. For example, the fort will host Empire Challenge 10 sponsored by the Joint Forces Command this summer.
