Army Antiterrorism

What is it'

The Army's antiterrorism (AT) program protects personnel (Soldiers, members of other Services, Department of the Army (DA) civilian employees, Department of Defense (DoD) contractors and family members of DoD employees), information, property and facilities (including civil work and like projects) in all locations and situations against terrorism.

Why is it important to the Army'

The Army accepts as reality the intent of those that would use terrorism as a tool to destroy people, disrupt our mission, and deter us from our responsibilities. In turn we accept the obligations to not only prevent terrorist attacks targeting the Army community, but to respond effectively to an attack should an enemy attempt to break through our protective posture. The entire Army must be involved with this important endeavor so that every organization, every unit and every person that is part of the Army community understands their role and responsibilities. All leaders must insist on effective antiterrorism measures. Through resourcefulness and careful planning, Army strengths will prevail over terrorists' intent. In turn there is little doubt that we will successfully prevent terrorist attacks and are ready to respond to an attack if necessary.

What is the Army doing'

The Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG) and Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, is hosting the 10th Annual Worldwide Army Antiterrorism (AT) Conference, Jan. 25 - 29, 2010, at the Shades of Green Military Resort in Orlando, Fla. This conference provides a forum for Army command, Army service component command, direct reporting unit, and Army National Guard AT representatives to share knowledge and reinforce program improvements over the last year. The goal is to educate and develop Army AT personnel, build synergy for AT strategic goals and initiatives and involve AT officers in solving key issues impacting the program.

What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future'

(1) Development of quarterly awareness themes and products to assist the local Army and community leaders in focusing their awareness programs. These will be available on the Army Antiterrorism Enterprise Portal.

(2) Planning for a proposed 2010 Antiterrorism Awareness Month.

(3) Implementation of revised DoD threat reporting procedures in which Army law enforcement agencies enter and track suspicious activity reports.

(4) Finalizing of the Antiterrorism Field Manual (FM 3-07.2) that establishes doctrine for antiterrorism operations across the full spectrum of military operations.
