FORT CARSON Colo. - Maj. Gen. David G. Perkins, commanding general, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Dailey, honored Mountain Post Soldiers and Department of Defense civilians during an installation awards ceremony Oct. 23.

Perkins and Dailey presented Army Meritorious Service Awards, Army Commendation Medals and coins to Fort Carson Soldiers for achievements in excellence during the final quarter of fiscal year 2009.

"It is inspiring the amount of dedication you find in people who are focused on serving others," said Perkins. "The people we have recognized today are excellent examples of that."

The command group also recognized Fort Carson Department of Defense civilians for their outstanding service in support of the Mountain Post with certificate of achievements and coins.

"It takes a post to raise a Soldier," said Perkins. "What all of you do for our Soldiers and their Families enables them to deploy and succeed in their missions."

Dailey said this installation award ceremony was the first opportunity for the 4th Inf. Div.'s new commanding general to recognize the hard work and dedication of the Fort Carson work force.

"This ceremony emulates the commander's focus which is Mission, Soldier, Family, Team," said Dailey. "To truly represent this motto we need to recognize the entire 'Fort Carson Team.'"

The last honors of the day were awarded to Sgt. Roger Spencer II, and Spc. Steven McGloin.

Spencer, a combat engineer assigned to 1st Battalion, 68th Armored Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div. won the Fort Carson NCO of the Quarter.

Spc. McGloin, an information technology specialist assigned to Company B, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div. won the Fort Carson Soldier of the Year award.

Perkins commended the Soldiers on the knowledge and dedication required to succeed at the board.

In addition to being honored by the commanding general and sergeant major, Spencer and McGloin received prizes from local businesses and Army support organizations.

McGloin said two hours of studying every day and a lot of help from his battle buddies is the reason he won the Soldier of the Quarter Board.

"This isn't just important for me," he said. "This is a big deal for everybody that supported me. It is an honor to represent my command and everybody in my unit."

Perkins closed the ceremony thanking the Soldiers and civilians for their focus during the past quarter and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
