Veterans Day message from the TRADOC commanding general

By Gen. Martin E. DempseyNovember 7, 2009

Armistice Day was established in 1919 to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I and to recognize the courage and sacrifices of those who fought in that conflict.

Renamed Veterans Day in 1954, this holiday now recognizes all those who are serving or who have served in our Armed Forces and who have sacrificed to preserve our freedom.

As America enters its ninth year of war, America's sons and daughters continue to volunteer, to serve, and to accomplish each and every task assigned to them on behalf of their country.

Their commitment is an inspiration.

This Veterans Day, I ask you to take a moment to reflect upon your service and the service and sacrifices of your fellow soldiers, veterans, and their families.

I hope you are as proud of your service as I am to serve with you.

Thanks to each and every one of you for answering the call to duty and for living a life of service.
