FORT McPHERSON, Ga. (Nov. 5, 2009) - As the commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the Soldiers and Family members affected by today's shooting at Fort Hood. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. My team is working closely with Fort Hood and III Corps to assist Soldiers, their Families, employees and others on post. I have offered our help and I am committed to provide General Cone and his team any additional support that is needed.
The safety and well being of our Soldiers and Families are our highest priority. Law enforcement, medical and the command teams are working closely with each other to assist those injured and expeditiously notify Family members. We greatly appreciate the commitment shown by the local community in providing support to our wounded -- including local community hospitals which are treating some of the wounded Soldiers.
This is a terrible tragedy and we are all deeply saddened by the loss of our friends and comrades.
GEN. CHARLES C. CAMPBELL, COMMANDING GENERAL
U.S. ARMY FORCES COMMAND
