BRUSSELS, Belgium - Some 150 Brussels community members gathered at USAG Brussels Oct. 17 to celebrate the conclusion of the observance of Hispanic Heritage month.
"We were really happy with the community turnout," said Sgt. 1st Class Cortillian Andrews, one of the event's organizers.
Sgt. 1st Class Susan Fernandez, another organizer, who agreed, said, "This really was a community event made possible by our community volunteers."
Keynote speaker and community member Willie Vigil reminded all participants of the great diversity found under the Hispanic culture umbrella, how this influence has shaped and enriched the United States across the everyday spectrum of American life, and how Hispanic Americans have served their country since its founding.
The Brussels celebration reflected this influence, and included opportunities to experience it in the areas of music, dance, food, culture and tradition.
"I'm glad I came," said Army Capt. William Jones. "I'm not of Hispanic origin, but I thought this really made our community come together."
