Soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) united in Conmy Hall on October 16 to distinguish outstanding individuals for talent, dedication to duty and leading The Combined Federal Campaign.

Seventy-three Soldiers were awarded coins by Col. David P. Anders, Regimental Commander and Regimental Command Sgt. Major David Martel.

These Soldiers were acknowledged for their professionalism and commitment in the planning and execution of Spirit of America and Organizational Day.

"These Soldiers deserve recognition in front of the Regiment for being all-stars in planning these events," said Anders.

Cpl. Charles W. Hutcheson was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for exceptional meritorious achievement as a member of the Armed Forces Cycling team.

"His relentless pursuit of excellence and dedication to duty contributed greatly to maintaining the highest standards of the Old Guard," said Anders. "Hutcheson is a great example of talent we have in this Regiment."

With the recent kickoff of the Combined Federal Campaign in the National Capital Region, Anders and Martel emphasized the importance of donating to a great cause. CFC raises money for charities through donations from service members and federal employees.

"I'm giving every single Soldier here an opportunity to donate to CFC; money towards the Fisher House Foundation, for example, provides military families a home away from home during hospitalization for injuries and illnesses," said Anders.

"Donating touches the heart," said Martel. "I donate to Fisher House to help take care of our military during stressful times. Look at the book, there's something for everybody."
