FORT RILEY, Kan. -- A Fort Riley Family was named the "2009 Army Family of the Year" by the National Military Family Association.
Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin Nolan, his wife, Edith, and their children, Stephen and Shannon, were the recipients of the honor. Kevin Nolan is a member of the Division Headquarters Battalion, 1st Infantry Division.
The Nolan Family is involved in making their community better, whether it is through church, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school or command activities. This family's work and more importantly, their cheerful attitude, have touched many lives.
The Nolans were previously named the "Fort Riley Family of the Year" in a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony in April 2009. The family was nominated for the award by the command sergeant major's former unit, the 97th Military Police Battalion.
The Nolans are among seven 2009 Military Families of the Year: one for each branch of the armed forces - Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard - and for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Public Health Services.
One of the families will be named the National Military Family Association's "2009 Military Family of the Year" at the 40th Anniversary Celebration, Oct. 28.
The NMFA is the leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening and protecting the families of the men and women currently serving, retired, wounded or fallen.
The Association's Military Family Award Program recognizes strong military Families who embrace their service to the nation, are role models in their community, and understand that together they are stronger.
