CRC defeats Road Dawgs 22-2 in playoffs

FORT BENNING, GA - CONUS Replacement Center defeated the Road Dawgs 22-2 in an intramural flag football game Monday at Essebagger Field.

It was the first game for both teams in the Commander's Cup Flag Football tournament.

The Road Dawgs of 104th Transportation Company picked up a safety in the first half while CRC scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Luke Page. With the two-point conversion by Nick Spinks, CRC led 8-2. Shicana Murant added a one-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 14-2 at the half.

CRC's Demetrius Minor returned a 35-yard interception for a touchdown in the second half and with the two-point conversion led22-2. CRC ended the game with a win and a chance to advance in the winner's bracket of the Commander's Cup playoffs.

"The first half was a defensive battle and we finally got going and got the victory," said Minor, CRC coach. "At halftime, we talked about keeping up the intensity, playing together as a team and keeping our composure.

"Everyone is in the playoffs for a reason - because they have winning records. It's all tough games from here on out," Minor said.

Page said his defense played really well.

"They scored on the safety but we held them from scoring for the rest of the game," he said. "We started off slow on offense but picked it up at the end. If we keep cutting teams out, we can win this."

CRC played A Company, 2nd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment, in the second round of the winner's bracket Wednesday and won 14-0 to advance in the winner's bracket against the 11th Engineer Battalion.
