DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. - Lining the hallways of the main thoroughfare on the Detroit Arsenal were representatives promoting women's spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
As a tribute to the contributions of our female Soldiers, Family Members, and DA Civilian employees, a health and wellness exposition was held on August 26, 2009 in celebration of Women's Equality Day.
Vendors provided raffles, giveaways, and an abundance of educational information specific to a woman's needs. Free glucose readings, tips for good oral hygiene, spinal alignment, smoking cessation, weight management, breast cancer detection, bone density testing, and spiritual enlightenment were just a few of the opportunities enjoyed by the attendees. Representatives from the USAG-Detroit Arsenal Fire Department also performed blood pressure screenings, and the Employee Assistance Center staff encouraged women to sign a pledge to drive drug and alcohol free.
"Being healthy is important to the success of our families and our organization," explained Angela Kelly, Garrison Plans Specialist.
Carol Karl, executive secretary for Heavy Combat Systems, added, "Women are in charge of their own lives. The health fair gives us a chance to understand what we need to keep ourselves healthy."
Women all over the Nation continue to answer to the call to serve our country. The USAG-Detroit Arsenal salutes them for a job well done. Thank you ladies!
