FORT BENNING GA - GEN(R) Colin Powell and GEN David Petraeus will headline the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum Aug. 31 through Sept. 1 at the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development at Columbus State University.
Now in its fourth year, the forum is named for retired Synovus chief executive officer and chairman of the board Jim Blanchard, who emphasized the principles of servant leadership while at the company.
"Servant leadership is a worthy goal unto itself," Blanchard is quoted on the forum's Web site. "We run our company this way simply because it's right, because every person who labors here has great worth and deserves to be treated so. Our company is built on these values. They define who we are."
The annual conference pulls in people from all levels of expertise, from chief executive officers to small business owners, said LTG(R) Carmen Cavezza, executive director of the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development and former commanding general of Fort Benning.
Powell, the former Secretary of State, is slated to kick off the conference at 8 p.m. Aug. 31. Other speakers include Paul Amos II, Dan Cathy, Norah O'Donnell, Richard Florida and Jim Blanchard.
Paul Amos II is the president and chief operating officer of Aflac. Cathy is the president of Chick-Fil-A. O'Donnell is a chief Washington correspondent for MSNBC and serves as a contributing correspondent for NBC's Today.
Florida is the founder of the Creative Class group and serves as director of the Martin Prosperity Institute and a professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
Petraeus, commander of the U.S. Central Command, will wrap up the conference.
Seven hundred people have registered to attend the conference and tickets are still available, Cavezza said.
