Community Policeman Program

The Community Policeman Program is a three way partnership between Fort Meade's Provost Marshal, the local County Police, and Picerne Military Housing (the Fort Meade Residential Communities Initiative partner) intended to reduce neighborhood crimes associated with youth. Picerne made a house available on post as a "home base" for a police officer assigned to that neighborhood. This officer patrols the neighborhood, watches school bus stops, and confers weekly with the County Police on incidents in the schools so youth misbehavior can be tracked in the neighborhoods. Fort Meade has seen a marked reduction in break-ins, vandalism, and youth misbehavior as a result.

Deployed Family Fun Day

The USO of Metropolitan Washington, the Metropolitan Military Information Exchange and the Hearts Apart Deployment Support Group sponsored a Family Fun Day exclusively for the Families of Soldiers who are deployed from the Greater Fort Meade military community.

Skating

The Wheels Skate Center in Odenton hosts a free skating session every Tuesday evening for active duty military and Family members. The skating center offers discounted admission to military personnel and their Families during its public sessions.
