Community Receptions

The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and local businesses co-host receptions welcoming military leaders, newly arriving military personnel, U.S. and Allied personnel attending the Adjutant General School, the Finance School, and the Recruiting and Retention School, and all elements of the Soldier Support Institute. Attendees include the senior leadership of Fort Jackson, along with business and political leaders of the greater Columbia area.

Welcome Publication

The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Jackson Director of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation produce a full-color, 70 page document that serves as a Soldier Guide to Fort Jackson and the greater Columbia area. It is distributed to newly arrived, non-Basic Combat Training Soldiers and is available at every lodging facility on post. It contains useful information concerning dining, entertainment, recreation and lodging, along with area maps. The 3,000 to 5,000 visiting Family Members, who attend the weekly graduation of Basic Combat Training, find it particularly helpful with respect to activities available on and off post.

Spousal Employment Initiative

This is a new initiative, announced during the Community Covenant signing ceremony, as part of an even broader effort to promote employment opportunities to Soldier Spouses and newly retired Soldiers who plan to reside in and around the local community. The initiative is sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and is enthusiastically supported by local employers.

Military Appreciation

Annually, thousands of complimentary tickets are donated to Fort Jackson by local universities, sports franchises and the entertainment community for use by Soldiers and their Family Members. The universities are the University of South Carolina and South Carolina State University. The sports teams are the Columbia Blowfish baseball team and the Columbia Inferno hockey team. Select organizations that donate complimentary tickets include the State Museum and the Golden Corral restaurants.
