Wounded Warrior Support

The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga., and Humana Military Healthcare Services partnered with Home Depot co-founder, philanthropist and Atlanta-area resident Bernie Marcus to help wounded U.S. military service members and their families obtain additional care to promote their recovery from combat-related injuries. The program, called the SHARE Initiative, is for Service members wounded during service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The partnership allows Shepherd Center to complement the care already given through the Military Treatment Facilities system and the Veterans Administration by offering world-renowned medical and rehabilitation care to Service members returning from combat with catastrophic injuries, such as traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. The program also targets military service members who live in rural areas and have limited access to the specialized services they may require. For more information visit www.shepherd.org or call (404) 350-7317.

Support by Professional Sports in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area

The Atlanta Braves, Georgia Force arena football team and the Atlanta Falcons honor the men and women in uniform at various military appreciation games and events.

Operation Gift

This program is offered during the holiday season to assist Fort McPherson and Fort Gilllem Soldiers and their Families in the junior enlisted ranks. Toys are donated from throughout the installations and surrounding communities so that the children of these Families in need can receive toys at Christmas. Our generous community partners include the VFW, American Legion and local churches as well as private citizens and internal members of the installation community.
