Staff Sgt. Liela Moser heard the stories her grandfather, a retired Philippine Army colonel, and step-father, who also served in the Army, would tell as she was growing up. At the age of 18, Moser enlisted in the U.S. Army, partly because she wanted to follow in her family's legacy, but also because she was ready to create her own experiences. Moser is not the only one of her siblings who has decided to serve; her brother is currently deployed with the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division and her sister went a different route with the Air Force and is currently station in Texas.

Growing up, Moser, who was born on Guam and moved to Seattle at a young age, remembers being a part of a tight-knit family where there were no secrets. At a time in America when a lot of families are getting away from some of the more traditional family activities, there were two things Moser recalls always doing as a family: going to church every Sunday and eating dinner together every night.

Moser enlisted in the Army six years ago. She deployed once with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, the second brigade to participate in Gen. David Petraeus' now famous "surge" into the Iraqi capital. During her deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, Moser served as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) for the dental clinic on Forward Operating Base Falcon on the southern edge of the city.

Moser has completed her bachelor's degree in business administration and is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports medicine.

Moser is currently married with no children.
