No Ordinary Day
February 16th, 2009 started like any other ordinary day for these Soldiers, before day break, 29 Soldiers, NCOs, and Officers of the 311th Signal Command and 516th Signal Brigade rotated and stretched their muscles as they lined a downtown street of Hawaii; full of excited chatter. Though it started like every other PT morning, it would prove to be anything but; it was the day they had trained two and a half months for, they were ready to run.........................and run they did! The 25th Annual Great Aloha Run, was an 8.1 mile course that took the Soldiers from the well known Aloha Towers in downtown Honolulu, to the famous Aloha Stadium, in the same city, where great athletes showcase their talents year after year; and on that day, our Signal Soldiers were among those athletes. Proudly displaying the "Stay Army" logo on their brilliant Signal Corps tee-shirts, the NCOs, Officers, and Soldiers of the 311th Signal Command tested their will, determination, and endurance while motivating one another and those around them with the best cadence in the Army's arsenal; with the colors flying high, leading the way, Brigadier General Lynn and Command Sergeant Major Watson, were not to be outdone, relieving cadence callers and showing that this event was truly a team effort. Not to be lost in the excitement, was the hard work and dedication of MSG Dickey, NCOIC of 311th Signal Command G-1, and the team coach and captain. MSG Dickeys intense program not only ensured the success of the 311th run team, doing training on long distance, sprint work, and muscular endurance, each Soldier was also able to improve on their individual Army Physical Fitness Test. And so the story goes, the 311th Signal Command and 516th Signal Brigade ran with Army and Signal Corps pride, promoting; but, more importantly showing the Hawaiian community who we are and how we will always be there to support their community. If you didn't make it this time, don't unlace your running shoes; next year's run is just another 100 miles or so.............. ALOHA!
