• BLACK BUTTE LAKE, Calif. (May 28, 2009) -- An osprey peers out from its nest atop an artificial habitat at Black Butte Lake, Calif. Park staff at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-managed lake have constructed five of the habitats to encourage species repopulation. "All of the nests we've put up are active," says Black Butte park ranger Holly Myers, "so we're pretty happy about that." The osprey has been designated a species at risk by the California Department of Fish and Game.
