In honor of military spouses, Friday, May 8 has been designated "Military Spouse Appreciation Day" worldwide, and some special things are planned by the Fort Myer Military Community Morale, Welfare and Recreation directorate.
Military spouses are invited to pick up a special button this week through Friday, May 8. This button will identify you as the hero you are, and along with words of gratitude all week, it will qualify you to receive the following Friday, May 8:
* Fort Myer Auto Crafts Shop in Building 227 (beside the Shoppette) has a class on how to do an auto safety check.
* The Fort McNair & Myer Officers Clubs - $2 off lunch
* The Fort Myer Child Development Center will pass out chocolate roses.
**** Spates Community Club will honor military spouses with a dessert social from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 8. Hosted by Garrison Commander Col. Laura J. Richardson, this get-together will feaure senior Army leadership, The U.S. Army Band "Strolling Strings," several information booths including a representative from the Non-Appropriated Fund Civilian Personnel Office and in the center of it all: a chocolate fountain.
* The Fort Myer Commissary and Post Exchange are giving coupons and other interesting items, like a fruit basket give-away and make-up demonstrations.
