New Infantry Center top NCO selected
Fort Benning Commanding General MG Michael Barbero announced May 1 that CSM Earl Rice will be the next top enlisted Soldier for the U.S. Army Infantry Center and School.
Rice is currently the command sergeant major of the Southern European Task Force in Vicenza, Italy. He will replace CSM William J. Ulibarri, who will retire after 27 years of service.
"CSM Earl Rice is one of the most highly regarded NCO leaders in our Army," said Barbero, who served with Rice during two previous assignments, including a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Rice also served as Barbero's command sergeant major at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, La. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve with him again," Barbero said.
During his 26 years of service, Rice has held numerous command sergeant major positions, including the JRTC and Fort Polk, the 2nd Battalion (Airborne) 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Vicenza, Italy and the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, N.C.
"CSM Rice is joining a team of the best command sergeant majors in the Army," Barbero said. "This team of superb senior enlisted leaders will continue to lead the Army in providing trained and ready Soldiers and leaders for our Army."
Rice will take over the responsibilities of USAIC command sergeant major from Ulibarri during a change of responsibility ceremony at 5 p.m. May 18 in front of Ridgway Hall's Follow Me Statue. Ulibarri will retire at 10 a.m. May 19 at the Benning Conference Center.
