COL Bryan R. Owens will assume the responsibility of Fort Benning's deputy commander May 11 from BG Milo Miles, whose next assignment is in Iraq, training the Iraqi force.
Owens comes from Fort Leaven-worth, Kan., where he served as the chief of staff for the Combined Arms Center.
"COL Bryan Owens has a sterling reputation and he has excelled in a string of tough, muddy boots assignments in Infantry units and operations across our Army," said MG Michael Barbero, commanding general. "He is the right leader for this critical time as we build the Maneuver Center of Excellence while supporting an Army at war."
Owens has deployed in support of operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Joint Guardian and Iraqi Freedom.
He has commanded Airborne Infantry units at the company, battalion and brigade levels.
As a staff officer, he has served as a battalion executive officer and a battalion, brigade and division level operations officer. Owens awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal.
"I know Bryan and I really look forward to serving with him here," Barbero said. "I know he and his wife, Jen, will be a tremendous addition to our world-class team of leaders at the United States Infantry Center and Fort Benning."
Owens and his wife, Jennifer, have three daughters, Ashley, Stephanie and Rachel.
