A group of children from Child, Youth and School Services, Fort Detrick, Md., have been throwing some pottery since the beginning of March.
They're not being rowdy, they're learning about the art and craft of pottery.
Taurean Washington established an Art Club for Fort Detrick youth and has encouraged them to explore poetry, painting and prose. He has now taken steps to ensure they get some hands-on experience with yet another medium: pottery.
"I proposed a venture with the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center," he said. "Their in-house grant writer arranged a $500 grant for our Detrick children to receive two free ceramics classes. We have two groups for the Art Club (10 kids in each group) So we will alternate each week for the four Fridays in the month of March."
The first class was held March 6, at 6 p.m. at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center on Carroll Street, Frederick, Md.
