U.S. Army Forces Command announced today the selection of Command Sergeant Major Michael A. Grinston, I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., command sergeant major as the next command sergeant major for U.S. Army Forces Command. He will join the FORSCOM leadership team later this year. Forces Command's Command Sergeant Major Scott C. Schroeder plans to retire this Fall with over 34 years of U.S. Army service and a highly distinguished military career.

"Command Sergeant Major Scott Schroeder personifies the highest standards of the Army Non-Commissioned Officer Corps," said Gen. Robert B. "Abe" Abrams, the commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command. "Throughout his career including multiple combat tours, Command Sergeant Major Schroeder has led by outstanding personal example from the front and ensured his troops had the very best training and leadership. His leadership emphasis on personally knowing your Soldiers and their Families, achieving unit excellence, mentoring and coaching represent the best of this time-honored corps, rightfully known as 'The Backbone of the Army.'"

"Command Sergeant Major Grinston will be an outstanding addition to the Forces Command leadership team," Abrams said. "Command Sergeant Major Grinston's 29 years of proud Army service at every level and on multiple combat deployments, has prepared him well for the responsibilities of his new position. He is the exact right senior NCO to carry forward Forces Command's vital focus on Readiness, our Total Army Force, and our Soldiers and Army Families."

Forces Command's command sergeant major is the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding general. Forces Command trains and prepares a combat ready, globally responsive Total Force in order to build and sustain readiness to meet Combatant Command requirements.

U.S. Army Forces Command will announce details later this Summer about the transitions and ceremonies for both command sergeants major.
