HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 14, 2017) -- Retired Lt. Gen Robert T. Dail was announced as the recipient of the Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Gregg Leadership Award during the AUSA Global Force Symposium and Exposition, March 14.

Army Materiel Command Commander Gen. Gus Perna and Lt. Gen. Aundre Piggee, Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, G-4, presented the award to Dail for his lifelong leadership, excellence and extraordinary accomplishments as a Soldier and professional logistician.

"I would say his greatest accomplishment is those he has coached, taught and mentored along the years to replace him and other big leaders… I am a personal product of that coaching and mentoring; I will be forever grateful for the time he spent with me, teaching me what right looks like," said Perna.

Dail started his Army career as a second lieutenant transportation officer in a battalion. His experience as a logistician grew as he commanded and led units at every level across the Army. Later he became the 15th director of the Defense Logistics Agency. In 2008, Dail retired after 33 years of active duty service.

Dail was named the second recipient of the Gregg Award. The award's namesake, retired Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Gregg, began his career as an Army private in 1946, and quickly moved up the ranks to become a lieutenant general, retiring in 1981 as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics for the Army. He commanded a supply and services Battalion in Vietnam, commanded an Army depot, and directed logistics for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Throughout his career, he improved supply performance, enhanced readiness, and better equipped Army warfighters.

For the second year, Gregg joined the general officers in presenting the award to its recipient.
