Garrison public affairs professionals win communication awards

VICENZA, Italy -- Installation Management Command announced winners Monday in the Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Communication Awards Competition for 2016, and the United States Army Garrison Italy Public Affairs Office made a strong showing, walking away with two organization awards and three individual awards.

The Outlook newspaper placed second in the Army-funded newspaper category, and the USAG Italy website, www.italy.army.mil, placed second in the website category. Both publications have been forwarded to the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs for the Department of the Army level of the competition.

Outlook journalist and photographer Laura Kreider took first place in the Local National Writing category, a special IMCOM- only category.

Outlook editor Karin Martinez placed third in both the News Article and Feature Article categories, with the entries "Suicide Prevention Summit to focus on resiliency, discussion" and "73 years in the making -- Held in safekeeping since WWII, Italian citizen now able to return ring," respectively.

Major contributors to the Outlook are Martinez, Kreider, Aaron P. Talley, Anna Terracino and Mark Turney. Talley is also the creator of the USAG Italy website.

The KLW competition recognizes Soldiers and DA civilian employees for excellence in achieving the objectives of the Army Public Affairs Program. On behalf of the Secretary of the Army, the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs conducts the competition annually in order to recognize, cultivate and inspire excellence within the Army public affairs community.

The competition aligns with the annual Defense Media Awards, establishes competition criteria and provides the Army with guidance for recognizing the most notable work of its public affairs professionals. (PAO)
