GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany-- The first annual Strong Europe Aviation Rotary Wing Summit took place, 1-2 Mar. 2016, here, at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort conference center.
The conference hosted by the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, was aimed at gathering senior Aviators from all over Europe to build a common operating picture, establish future joint training, and develop habitual relationships and partnerships between the Allied nations.
The keynote speaker was Maj. Gen. William K. Gayler, Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Europe. "A conference of this capacity is long overdue," said Gayler. "It's time we started working together more to highlight our strengths and what we would like to work on in the future."
Senior Aviators from Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Macedonia, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, United Kingdom, and Ukraine were in attendance.
Over the two day conference, each nation shared a brief presentation on aviation operational capabilities, goals, objectives, and limitations, for the year and beyond. The dialogue shared between the nations established a framework for future joint interoperability, combined training opportunities, and a mutual understanding for improving freedom of maneuver throughout Europe.
"We're leaving with ideas for future conferences," said Maj. Scott Feathers, Assistant Operations Officer, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. "That will allow us to build on this one and increase the ability to operate and train together."
