PRISTINA, Kosovo -- Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commanding general, U.S. Army Europe, issued remarks during a joint press conference, here, with Kosovan Lt. Gen. Rrahman Rama, commander, Kosovo Security Forces, Feb. 16.

The visit to Kosovo was Hodges' first, and he also met with Dr. and Professor Haki Demolli, the Minister of the Ministry for the Kosovo Security Force.

During his remarks, Hodges wished the nation a happy Independence Day, which is celebrated each year Feb. 17, to commemorate when the Kosovo Assembly declared its independence from Serbia in 2008.

Since then, more than 100 countries have recognized Kosovo, and it has joined the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Council of Europe Development Bank, and signed a framework agreement with the European Investment Bank.

During the press conference, Hodges applauded Kosovo for being a part of, and helping maintain a safe and secure Europe and said U.S. Army Europe looks forward to continue training with KSF in Kosovo and elsewhere.
