FORT HOOD, Texas -- Master Sgt. Adrian Thompson, the Division West G1 Sergeant Major, was recognized for his outstanding service to his community in a ceremony held here Feb. 9.
Thompson volunteered more than 45 hours in support of the Texas Pursuit Track & Field Club, a non-profit that services the youth of Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Harker Heights, Texas.
"Volunteering shows that not only am I serving my country, but I'm also giving back to my community," he said. "I try to volunteer wherever I go. The more people who take the time to take care of their community, the better our community will be, and the stronger the bond between the military and the community will be."
Thompson assisted with numerous training sessions and also helped to develop the skills of the young track team members ranging in ages from 8 to 16.
Thompson's volunteerism wasn't limited to helping area youth. He also dedicated time to volunteering at unit family functions and at the Wind Crest Nursing Center in Copperas Cove, where he assisted with making arts and crafts, providing holiday music, and taking pictures during the holidays.
"It's important, because it shows that everyone is willing and able to help each other out, and that's the main concept: us helping each other out," Thompson added.
"He has always been an active supporter of all HHD's family activities," said Capt. Michael Murrell, company commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, First Army Division West. "He is dedicated to helping Soldiers, Families and civilians within the organization and in the Fort Hood and local communities."
