VICENZA, Italy (Feb. 8, 2016) -- U.S. Army paratroopers, from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, began a week-long training event, Allied Spirit IV Command Post Exercise, or CPX, here Feb. 8.
CPX is the brigade's staff opportunity to build the team and exercise mission command using both analog and digital systems. This exercise will facilitate the development of a shared understanding from the collective lessons learned in various exercises such as Combined Resolve V and ARRCade Fusion.
Allied Spirit IV CPX is a continuation of the field exercise that concluded in Hohenfels, Germany, Feb. 5.The brigade will use the opportunity to prepare for Exercise Saber Junction 16 in an austere environment and build capacity in a similar scenario to conduct a functions test before execution.
Allied Spirit IV CPX will develop mission command and unified land o, Feb. 8-11, to build on mission essential task proficiency and processes. The diverse scenario will provide exercise controllers the ability to merge realistic global security threats into one environment to challenge headquarters personnel into devising innovative solutions for military operations.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly-deploying forces to the U.S. Army Europe, Africa and Central Command areas of responsibility within 18 hours. The brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build stronger relationships and strengthen the alliance.
