Deputy commanding general visits MK Air Base, Romania

WIESBADEN, Germany - Maj. Gen. William Gayler, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Europe, visited the Mihail Kogalniceanu Forward Operating Site, or MK Air Base, in Romania, close to the Black Sea coast Jan. 25.

He was welcomed by Col. Lee Ellis, director, Black Sea Area Support Team. The purpose was to conduct a site assessment of capability, capacity and potential for expansion of this logistic hub.

Based on the visit, Gayler recognized that existing infrastructure, as well as contracted fiscal year 2015 European Reassurance Initiative projects, are of great value to USAREUR and the U.S. armed forces.

Additionally, Gayler took the opportunity to visit Soldiers from the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, and thank them for the great work they are doing.

Gayler also recognized the Black Sea Area Support Team for their untiring efforts supporting rotational forces at Mihail Kogalniceanu.
