PRIZREN, Kosovo (Jan. 12, 2016) -- Multinational forces, from the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg, deployed as part of NATO's Kosovo Force, or KFOR peace support mission, concluded a multi-day vehicle recovery operation for a KFOR water truck that slid off an icy mountain road outside Prizren, Kosovo, Jan. 2.

The recovery effort, which began Dec. 27, involved a Swiss army engineering team, a German mountain rescue and vehicle recovery team, a vehicle recovery team from Luxembourg and a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.

Alabama Army National Guard Soldiers from the 666th Explosive Ordnance Detachment, or EOD, Company, assigned to Multinational Battle Group-East, were requested by their KFOR German army contingent headquarters to conduct unexploded ordnance sweeping procedures in the wooded area where the water truck slid, making sure the area could be determined safe for the extraction procedure.

After the EOD team determined the area to be safe, a Swiss army engineer team was brought in to smooth out the incline and the truck was extracted safely.

The extraction teams' efforts and the EOD Soldiers' support in clearing the wooded area led to the safe and successful vehicle extraction.

This operation is one example of the way KFOR's multinational forces support one another in Kosovo. More than 30 nations contribute forces to the KFOR mission, which is dedicated to ensuring safety, security and freedom of movement in the region.
