WARSAW, Poland -- The U.S. Army Europe Office of the Inspector General's Inspections Branch conducted a military-to-military engagement with the Polish Inspectorate of Readiness, Ministry of Defense, here, Dec. 1.

This was the first USAREUR engagement with the Polish IG-like organization, and the start of an enduring relationship.

Both organizations discussed their structure, capabilities, roles and responsibilities. They also discussed the potential of conducting a combined inspection using NATO Combat Readiness Evaluation standards during Exercise Anakonda 2016, which will be one of the largest military exercises in recent years and the largest held by the Polish Military.

Over the past year, the USAREUR IG office has been working to create an enduring forum where IG-related best practices and training are shared with our NATO allies and partner nations. Similar engagements have been held with Romania, Estonia, Latvia, and Ukraine. USAREUR's IG plans to hold a European IG conference in Wiesbaden, Germany, in June 2016.

The team identified several similarities and differences in how their two organizations operate. The Polish IG performs the same three main functions (Inspections, Assistance, and Investigations) and the fourth independent function of teaching and training as U.S. Army IGs.

Both IGs enhance the warfighting and readiness capabilities of their military by teaching and training commanders, Soldiers, and civilians at all levels on current policy and doctrine. The Polish IG works directly for the Minister of Defense, comparable to the U.S. Army's IG who works for the Secretary of the Army.

Both the USAREUR Office of the Inspector General and the Polish Inspectorate of Readiness, Ministry of Defense, are committed to the continued support to NATO and look forward to working together in 2016.
