STUTTGART, Germany -- Brig. Gen. Phillip Jolly visited German Army Col. Christian Walkling, commander of the Bundeswehr State Command for Baden-Württemberg, and his staff at their headquarters in the Theodor-Heuss-Kaserne Dec. 3.

The purpose of Jolly's visit was to get an overview of operations, with a special interest in the contribution German Reservists make to the State Command's mission.

The State Command for Baden-Württemberg (Landeskommando Baden-Württemberg in German) is one of 15 Landeskommandos, each of which represents the Bundeswehr in its respective German state. In addition to this role, the Landeskommandos fulfill a range of tasks, including military support for disaster relief efforts; the protection of the population and vital infrastructure; and a range of command and control task for units within their areas of responsibility.

Overall, Landeskommando Baden-Württemberg, oversees the training and military employment of 11,000 Reservists in Baden-Württemberg.

Jolly and Walkling noted many similarities in the American and German Reservist systems and discussed the potential for combined training opportunities and greater sharing of lessons learned.
