CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Dec. 3, 2015)-- Despite heavy rainfall earlier in the morning, over 100 community members participated in the Zama Community Spouses' Association Turkey Trot held Nov. 26 on the Sagamihara Family Housing Area installation.
This event was held to raise money for ZaCSA's scholarship and grant programs that directly impact the Camp Zama community.
Almost on cue, the rain stopped for the start of the race, with a bright rainbow overhead, reaching from one end SFHA to the other.
Participants were lead to the start line by a turkey mascot, wearing a tutu.
With a whistle blow, turkey head-bands bobbed up and down, as the participants set off to complete the 3K loop around SFHA.
Throughout the racecourse, volunteers from the Camp Zama Red Cross and the Zama American High School Red Cross Club passed out water and cheered on participants.
Community Bank also distributed bottled waters at the finish line.
First and second places were given to the fastest female and male participants.
Congratulations to first and second women's finishers, Virginia Mayeb (11:46) and Yoko Stephens (12:15); and first and second men's finishers, Jacob Chege (11:27) and Phillip Curiel (12:00). The Lopez Family walked away with the family prize.
The race proved to be a fun way for community members to kick-off their Thanksgiving Day festivities-it also raised over $500 for ZaCSA's community grant and scholarship programs.
