FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- The Army Training Network -- the one-stop shop for training materials -- recently passed a social media milestone.

Last week the likes on ATN's Facebook page totaled more than 100,000. The page was created in 2012 to highlight Army training and leader development materials on the ATN site.

"The social media campaign is spreading the word about how ATN helps Army leaders plan, prepare, execute and assess training events. ATN also helps leaders track unit training," said Col. Stephen M. York, director of the Training Management Directorate. TMD maintains the ATN site.

Besides Facebook, TMD uses Twitter and YouTube to promote ATN, reflecting the Army's effort to reach Soldiers and commanders through social media.

To engage Soldiers, the ATN Facebook page offers them a chance to participate with features such as #TrainingTuesday and #WarriorWednesday. "Soldiers enjoy engaging in a conversation with other Soldiers about Army training and how to improve it," York said.

The Army launched ATN in April 2009 to provide a dynamic, web-based resource to supply the force with training information. The site has recorded more than 13 million hits.

ATN has a number of features to help units train as they fight, including:

•The Combined Arms Training Strategies. CATS provides task-based, event-driven training strategies, designed to assist the unit commander in planning and executing training events.

•The Digital Training Management System. DTMS allows commanders to plan exercises and keep track of their Soldiers' training records.

•The Mission Essential Task Lists. METL delivers Army official listings of the fundamental tasks for brigades and higher units.

•NCO Corner. It provides noncommissioned officers with links, products and services about leader development and unit training management.

ATN also has videos, lists of best practices and other resources to help commanders conduct tough, realistic unit training.
