Children at C. C. Pinckney Elementary School on Fort Jackson invited their moms and dads to share a Thanksgiving lunch Nov. 18 in the school cafeteria.
Three permanent staff and several volunteers worked with Reginald Clement, the food nutrition program manager for DODEA in SC., to prepare more than 100 pounds of turkey, pots of green beans, sweet potatoes and mixed fruit, and pans of dinner rolls to feed the 225 students, 104 parents, plus the school staff -- 325 hungry people in total.
"We feed the kids -- that's what we do," said Clement.
Capt. Chiquitia Pearson ate lunch with her son Jacob, a 2nd grader.
"I love it, the turkey, and plus my mommy," said Jacob.
Brenda Montoya and her 11-month old baby Brandon, stayed for two lunch periods; the first with her 3rd grader Nathaniel, and the other with her 4th grader, Brianna.
Spec. Abiud Flores, a bass player with the 282nd band, ate lunch with his 7-year old 2nd grade step-daughter, Daniela Horta, and his wife Aslin Del Valle.
The lunch room was buzzing with excited chatter for several hours while the different grades filtered through and the children were pleased to have moms and dads with them for this special school occasion.
