WIESBADEN, Germany - Achieving a near perfect score is no small achievement. It's even more impressive when one considers that inspectors took a hard look at 1,813 individual areas in Wiesbaden Child, Youth and School Services facilities to come up with a score of 99.33 out of a possible 100 total.

"Unofficially, we were told that that is the best in Europe and most likely also the highest score on an Army Higher Headquarters Inspection in the Army," said Petra Rohr, Wiesbaden CYSS program operations specialist.

The Higher Headquarters Inspection is only one of many regular formal and informal overviews conducted throughout the year to ensure all Wiesbaden CYSS facilities are in strict compliance with everything from fire safety to financial management, staff training to child care standards. Inspectors dig into the daily operations of the wide range of service including Child Development Centers and Family Child Care, School Age Centers and Youth Services.

"Annually we are required to do three internal inspections," said Rohr, explaining that the command calls for the unannounced inspections conducted by various garrison components examining Comprehensive Health and Safety, Fire Safety and Facility, and Multi-disciplinary Team overview.

The Army Higher Headquarters Inspection is also an annual unannounced inspection process bringing a team from the Installation Management Command's G-9 staff to Wiesbaden to spend four to five days in the garrison. "It's a very thorough inspection," Rohr said, taking a comprehensive look at the staff, facilities, participants and all paperwork and standards.

"Typically, each program director gets feedback on things that might need to be fixed," she said, adding that leaders are briefed on the results during an out-briefing to the command team and regional IMCOM director.

Wiesbaden CYSS facilities also undergo regular accreditation visits by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Council on Accreditation, said Ami Sansone, Wiesbaden CYSS program operations specialist.

"All of these efforts and positive results should give parents the assurance that our facilities are safe and the quality of care meets the highest standards," said Rohr. "We feel it's important to provide the best of care and facilities to our service members, civilians and their families. This should assure them that while they are defending our country, we are caring for their children in the best way possible."

"The caregiver's and CYSS staff are phenomenal in taking care of our most precious resource, our children," said Gregory Holzinger, Wiesbaden's Family and MWR director. "I am overly proud of the daily accomplishments of all of our care providers and CYSS staff, as well as extremely confident that our military families are receiving the best possible care for their children while serving in 'Wiesbaden: Our Home in Germany.'"

In order to recognize the exemplary service of CYSS team members in caring for the youngest members of the community throughout the year, two well-deserved days off have been authorized for all CYSS staff. On Friday, Nov. 27 and Thursday, Dec. 24, Wiesbaden CYSS facilities, to include Parent Central Services, Child Development Centers, School Age Centers, Teen Centers and Youth Sports, will be closed.

Parents who absolutely require care Dec. 24 should contact Parent Central Services no later than Dec. 17 to make arrangements for alternate options, so CYSS can staff appropriately.
