ROSE BARRACKS, Germany -- In a dimly lit Traditions Room, located at Reed Museum, several squadron commanders and sergeants major belonging to the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, stood in a horseshoe formation as they quietly waited for a ceremony to start.
The ceremony was a Meritorious Unit Citation presentation held at Rose Barracks, Germany on Sept. 30, 2015 and was for the unit's most recent deployment to Afghanistan.
As the orders were being published, Maj. Gen. William K. Gayler, the Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe, watched as Col. John V. Meyer III, the 78th Colonel of the Regiment and Command Sgt. Maj. Shane E. Pospisil, the Regimental Senior Enlisted Advisor, added the 75th streamer to their Regimental guidon representing the unit's deployment to Afghanistan from 2013 -- 2014.
After the guidon was hoisted, Meyer and Pospisil walked along the front of the formation handing out awards to the unit's squadrons for their display of exceptionally meritorious service while deployed to Southern Afghanistan's Kandahar Province as part of Combined Task Force Dragoon.
