WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe hosted the Sending States Forces Heads of Mission Working Group, here, Sept. 24-25.

Senior military and legal representatives from the six Sending States (Canada, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States) met to address the impact of the European refugee crisis on our collective ability to train and operate within Germany and throughout Europe.

Amid growing European concerns on the growing number of refugees, the Sending States Forces working group met to identify and develop solutions to challenges ranging from force protection all the way to freedom of movement in support of NATO and Operation Atlantic Resolve.

Representatives from the Sending States are charged with, among other things, sustaining and maintaining the rights and privileges we enjoy which are granted under the NATO Status of Forces and its Supplementary Agreements. This forms the bedrock for the high quality of life we experience and the ability for our armed forces to train, operate and move throughout Europe.

The Sending States Forces, and it working group meetings, have a long-standing history in Germany, especially in the context of adapting its work to the prevailing circumstances of the day. For over six decades such actions have ensured collective best practices, and wherever possible positive results, but above all the upkeep of an enduring successful partnership with the host nation of Germany.
