BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 3rd Logistical Civil Augmentation Program Support Battalion conducted a change of command ceremony on Sept. 19, 2015. Col. Thomas Niles, commander of the LOGCAP Support Brigade presided over the ceremony and spoke highly of the battalion.

"What started out as a one-man unit, has grown into something tremendous," said Niles.

He contributed the success to leadership.

"This battalion's success is a sign of hard work and dedication as it operates autonomously," said Niles.

Lt. Col. Lance Austin, outgoing commander of 3rd LOGCAP Support Battalion, served as the commander for more than two years.

"I want to say thank you to my Soldiers," said Austin. "All in all it's been a great journey and I can say the "3D" is as strong as it's ever been."

Austin was supported by family and friends when he relinquished command to Lt. Col. Timothy Rados.

Rados' career spans over 25 years of military service in combination with the Tennessee National Guard and the United States Army Reserve. Most recently, he served as chief of plans for the 87th Army Support Command (East) in Birmingham, Ala.

"I am excited to be part of this great organization," said Rados.

He shared a bit of history about his upbringing and thanked his family for their continued supporter, naming his wife, Lt. Col. Karen Rados, his greatest supporter.

Rados also shared with his new battalion his passion for taking care of Soldiers and living the Army Values.

The 3rd LOGCAP Support Battalion has a mission to provide a trained and ready unit that is combined, cross-trained, modular and functionally deployable in support of the Logistical Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP), Army Sustainment Command (ASC), Army Reserve Sustainment Command (ARSC), and Army Materiel Command (AMC).
