RICHMOND, Ky. -- For performance of duty during the one-year period from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012, Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) was awarded it's second Army Superior Unit Award in a ceremony in front of the Depot's Lake Buck Lodge on September 16. On hand to formally mark the special occasion and present the flag streamer and certificate to BGAD Commander Col. Lee Hudson, was Brig. Gen. Stephen E. Farmen, Commanding General of the Joint Munitions Command (JMC), BGAD's immediate higher headquarters based in Rock Island, IL.

"This is a great day for the talented and dedicated professionals here at Blue Grass," said Farmen. "The presentation of the Army Superior Unit Award recognizes outstanding meritorious performance by a unit during peacetime for difficult and challenging missions under extraordinary circumstances. Its receipt reflects well not only on the devotion and superior performance of the Depot workforce in providing conventional munitions support to our Joint Warfighters, it also highlights the critical capabilities of all JMC installations to respond to any wartime requirement at a moment's notice."

As all present stood at attention, Farmen attached the award streamer to the BGAD flag and presented the award certificate to Hudson. The reading of the award citation recognized the importance of "supplying America's warfighters with the right ammunition at the right place, on time, every time--while also demonstrating an unfailing determination to stand in support of those in harm's way during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Hudson concluded with, "This recognition is in keeping with the finest traditions of the United States Army, and bestows distinct credit upon the BGAD workforce and their ongoing commitment to our Warfighters. I'm proud to lead such a fine group."
