VICENZA, Italy -- Over one hundred Sailors from the USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) took advantage of Army Europe training facilities here for their required marksmanship qualifications while on a nearby port call, Sept. 8-11, 2015.

The Mount Whitney is currently in Croatia undergoing maintenance.

The Sailors conducted preliminary marksmanship instruction with the M-16 and M-4 rifles, and the M-9 pistol at U.S. Army Europe's Vicenza Training Support Center indoor shooting ranges on Caserma Ederle. They used both the Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 -- a virtual training range that allows service members to become familiar with firing the weapons in a safe, digital environment -- and then moved on to the live-fire Multifunctional Indoor Range.

The Vicenza Training Support Center is one of several centers throughout Europe that provide a variety of homestation training resources and support. The Training Support Centers are a part the Training Support Activites Europe, a directorate of Army Europe's Joint Multinational Training Command headquartered in Grafenwoehr, Germany. The JMTC is the Army's only permanantly-located overseas training command, providing support to U.S., NATO and Partner nation forces in Europe and Africa.
