ANSBACH, Germany (Sept. 4, 2015) -- Illesheim Army Health Clinic trained in simulated battle conditions at Storck Barracks Friday, Aug. 28.
A team of six medical Soldiers demonstrated to trainers their lifesaving skills under heightened sensory conditions, which included loud music, simulated shooting, simulated smoke and strobe lighting.
Their task was to apply first aid, triage, and medical care to three Soldiers and a mannequin with notional injuries (and make-up simulating injuries) following a play-acted enemy attack.
Staff Sgt. Yesenia Albiter, who helped organize the event, said the purpose was to "keep up with their medical skills so they're ready when they're at the battlefield."
"It's something to get their heart flowing, something to see if they'll react under pressure," said Albiter. "We need to simulate this so we know they can do the clinical side and do the trauma side."
One of the Soldiers under evaluation compared the day's training to that which he received during advanced individual training.
"This is probably the most real training I've had since coming out of AIT," said Pfc. Austin Garner. "As a medic and never being deployed, this is definitely something we need."
