WIESBADEN, Germany (August 24, 2015) -- U.S. Army Europe headquarters welcomed Lucia Puttrich, the Hessian Minister for European and Federal Affairs, who met with Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commander of Army Europe, and his staff here.

The visit was intended to further strengthen the professional relationship and to showcase U.S. Army Europe's contribution to a "Strong Europe."

During the visit Hodges stated "The relationships between U.S. Army Europe and the Hessen government and the Hessian people are very important to us."

Hodges also expressed his gratitude for the continued support our military and civilian members receive from the surrounding communities in the Wiesbaden area and the overall state of Hessen.

"It is an honorable signal to us that the US Army, after the disappearance of the 'Iron Curtain,' relocated its headquarters for Europe back to the Hessian state capital of Wiesbaden. The outstanding cooperation between the US Army headquarters, the German Forces Land Command Hessen and the Hessian state government is, considering the current threat posed by IS terror militias, very important for our civil-military cooperation and of high significance for the safety of our citizens," stressed Puttrich.

"US Army Europe's forward presence helps assure our NATO allies and secures U.S., European and German national interest by helping to ensure a stable and economically strong Europe," Hodges said.
