WASHINGTON (August 15, 2015) -- Family members, friends and former comrades came together to celebrate the retirement of Col. Steven L. Donaldson, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington provost marshal, during a ceremony held in Spates Community Club at Joint Base-Myer Henderson Hall, Va.
"I'm sure I can represent everyone at this ceremony on why we all came today," said Col. Dan McElroy, deputy Provost Marshal General and close friend of Donaldson for more than 27 years. "We are here to show our love, respect and appreciation for Steve and his families' service to our great Army."
Lt. Gen. David E. Quantock, U.S. Army Inspector General, who formerly served with Donaldson, was the guest speaker and presented him with Legion of Merit to recognize his honorable 27 years of service as an officer in the Military Police Corps.
"I can't be more genuine when I say that he's a true professional warrior, dedicated to his family, friends and our Nation," said McElroy. "He is always giving 100 percent and then some. I'm sure everyone here has a special story about him to tell. Not all good, but all definitely memorable."
Earlier in the day he and his family conducted a public wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, Va.
Donaldson will move on to become the Policy Lead for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.
