The Department of the Army confirmed today the Department of Defense's announcement of the deployment of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, from Ft. Bragg, N.C. The brigade will deploy approximately 2,800 soldiers to Afghanistan in the spring of 2009 to provide a variety of air, weapons and logistical support capabilities for the International Security Assistance Force.

The brigade provides full - spectrum rotary wing aviation capabilities; attack, assault, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, cargo, command and control, and airspace management; to sustain and support operations ranging from combat to civil support.

The Army will only provide the best led, best trained and best equipped forces possible to the combatant commander for operations in Afghanistan. The brigade is being informed in advance to provide them the opportunity to plan, conduct world-class training, and to provide some degree of predictability for the Soldiers and their Families.

The 82nd CAB and its subordinate units have deployed on seven different occasions in support of OPERATIONS IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM. The brigade headquarters and three battalions returned to Fort Bragg in February after a 12 - month OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM deployment.

American Soldiers are deployed to more than 80 countries worldwide. They and their Family members continue to make great sacrifices for the good of our nation.
