FVC: Helping turn Soldiers into farmers

By U.S. ArmyJuly 31, 2015

The Farmer Veteran Coalition can help veterans interested in farming.

Through coalition guidance, veterans can transition to agriculture in either full- or part-time employment, or as a supplement to disability-related income.

"The Farmer Veteran Coalition creates connections for our U.S. veterans who are beginning and sustaining careers in agriculture. It is our purpose to implement programs that will serve veterans as they have served us. In support of that goal, FVC will host the 2015 Farmer Veteran Stakeholders Conference this November in Sacramento, California. The conference brings together leaders from government, agriculture and farmer veterans to find solutions to serve U.S. military veterans as they establish their career in agriculture," said Michael O'Gorman, FVC executive director.

Joel Heinzeroth's story is one example of how the coalition helps veterans getting started in agriculture.

"We are honored to assist Joel in this phase of his post-military career. Joel exemplifies the spirit of American agriculture, having first served his country in the military and now working to feed his country. We are extremely proud of Joel and will continue to support his endeavors, through the generosity of Newman's Own Foundation," said O'Gorman.

Soldiers interested in farming should browse www.farmvetco.org, the FVC website, for more information. It provides further information about the coalition, its programs and principles; business resources and partners; and frequently asked questions.
