The Center for Army Leadership -- a subordinate organization of the Mission Command Center of Excellence at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center -- has developed the LeaderMap app for Android, iOS and Windows mobile devices, as well as Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer on personal computers. According to the app website, LeaderMap contains resources to help guide self-development efforts and the implementation of leader development programs.

"The LeaderMap mobile application acts as a self-guided tour of key concepts contained in FM 6-22," said Helen A. Remily, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command capabilities manager of The Army Distributed Learning Program. "Unlike other doctrinal publications, which have undergone enhancements, the LeaderMap application is external to the text it supplements. By linking relevant and interactive content, the LeaderMap helps bring FM 6-22 doctrine to life. It enhances the individual reader's experience and expands his or her understanding of leader development beyond the pages of the publication."

The LeaderMap app was adopted into the broader Bringing Doctrine to Life initiative, which is a key aspect of Force 2025 and Beyond. The Bringing Doctrine to Life initiative institutes state-of-the-art methods for communicating regulations, field manuals, Army Doctrine Reference Publications and other vital information to Army Professionals. These interactive tools allow the Army to reach Soldiers and Army Civilians in a way that meets their modern, information-consumption habits.

"This tool brings to life key concepts from the FM 6-22 and other Army leadership doctrine," said Dr. Jon Fallesen, project lead for the app's development. "LeaderMap provides valuable resources including videos, self-assessments and job aids to pique the interest of Army leaders and to engage them in simple practices to make developing others and themselves more of a habit."

The Bringing Doctrine to Life initiative has also introduced the EPUB3 file. This new, interactive format for delivering doctrine is accessible on all current and future operating systems on a variety of platforms, including cellphones, eReaders, tablets and more. Additionally, these documents will be available for viewing from anywhere and not just on government devices.

The first documents to feature the new Bringing Doctrine to Life initiative -- including FM 6-22: Leader Development and ADRP 1: The Army Profession -- are available at www.apd.army.mil. More documents will be added as they are approved for distribution. LeaderMap is available for free download from app stores, as well as from the Central Army Registry.
