WIESBADEN, Germany -- A white ribbon was cut apart to officially open a small yet densely decorated historical museum here, July 28, highlighting the major achievements in Army Europe's history, which dates back to World War I.

"The exhibit is meant to be a training tool a teaching tool for Soldiers, civilians and family members to learn more about the history of the U.S. Army in Europe and also be a place to foster discussion, educate and entertain," said Molly Bompane, the creator and overseer of the exhibit's creation.

In addition to the numerous displays, which highlight the history of Army Europe's role in both world wars, missions to Kosovo and the Balkans, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Atlantic Resolve, the walls are lined with memorabilia. Even the celling displays a 173rd Airborne Brigade paratrooper hanging from his parachute as the unit jumped into action during OAR in April of last year.

Before the ribbon was cut Lt. Gen Ben Hodges, commander, Army Europe, congratulated Bompane on her outstanding job and joked with the retired senior leaders in attendance to dig through their old gear to help expand the exhibit.

Hodges welcomed the U.S. and German retired generals in attendance to stand with him and officially cut the ribbon leading to the numerous artifacts.

Bompane says that this piece is only a starting point. She explains that is will continue to evolve and grow over the years with the history of Army Europe.
